Shop Sales Assistant Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Post: CHARITY SHOP ASSISTANT – RETAIL COMMUNITY CHAMPION
Pay: £10.50 per hour
Hours: 15 Hours per week
Main Purpose:
To assist in managing the shop on specified days, in line with company policy, in order to maximize sales and profit and to help increase the profile of The Stephen Lyon Organisation.
To communicate regularly with the Service Manager on all operational and other relevant issues that affect the running of the shop including helping people who are seeking help from the support service.
Position:
The Shop Assistant is responsible to the service manager for carrying out the duties of the post.
Duties:
1. To be responsible for the specified days management of the shop, to enable the shop to operate
effectively and achieve its maximum trading potential.
2. To manage the volunteers effectively and give training on company operating methods on specified day/s as required.
3. To keep the shop staff and volunteers informed of all operational matters and communicate any of the Managers instructions.
4. To monitor sales performance and to work with the Manager to achieve agreed sales budget figures.
5. To work with the Manager to remain within the agreed shop budget.
6. To help and signpost people who are seeking the support from the Support Service.
7. To control and maintain the stock, the security of stock and cash at all times and ensure monies are kept safe on the specified day.
8. To maintain all administrative procedures and complete appropriate paperwork accurately and on time.
9. To adhere to health and safety regulations and ensure that staff and volunteers work in a safe manner and are trained to use any equipment (steamer, pricing guns).
10. To notify the Management of any repairs or maintenance that is required.
11. To attend meetings as required.
12. To adhere to The Stephen Lyon Organisation’s policies and procedures and quality standards.
13. To promote the Charity’s aims and objectives.
Confidentiality:
The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about clients, staff and other organisational business. The work is of a confidential nature and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act at all times.
Health and Safety:
Employees must comply with the provisions of ‘The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974’ and must take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions whilst at work. Employees are also required to co-operate with their employer to enable them to perform or comply with any statutory provisions.

Flexibility:
This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the main duties and responsibilities only. The post holder will need to be flexible in developing the role in conjunction with the Service Manager. The post holder may be asked to carry out any other delegated duty or task that is in line with their post. This can include being asked to help at fundraising events.
